As part of a “Doing Public History” Term III class, fourteen Elmira College students partnered with the Chemung County Historical Society to publish an online exhibit entitled Elmira in the 1920’s. Each student chose a topic on the City of Elmira in the 1920’s, wrote a paper, and viewed the Chemung County Historical Society’s collection of objects and documents. Students also learned virtual exhibit design and label design from the Chemung County Historical Society’s knowledgeable staff. The “Doing Public History” class was taught by Dr. Charlie Mitchell, Professor of American Studies and Kelli Huggins, Education Coordinator at the Chemung County Historical Society.
