According to Children’s Miracle Network, every minute, 62 children enter a CMN Hospital for treatment. This network of hospitals that extends across North America provides $3.4 billion in charity care annually, and the positive impacts of this organization are even felt here in Elmira, at our very own CMN Hospital system, Arnot Health, the only one of its kind in the surrounding nine counties. This year, and for years to come, students at Elmira College, will raise funds and spread awareness for patients in need of neonatal and pediatric care and services at Arnot Health.
To celebrate our fundraising efforts, Dance Marathon is coming in April 2016. Dance Marathon at Elmira College will be an eight hour event; participants will dance, engage in other fun activities, and ultimately stand for the duration of the event to symbolize the pain and suffering experienced by sick children on their road to recovery. We want to make a difference in the lives of children and their families in times of need.
The Dance Marathon movement began in 1991, at Indiana University, to honor Ryan White, a student who passed away from HIV/AIDS after a bad blood transfusion. In 1994, Dance Marathon paired up with Children’s Miracle Network, and the rest is history.
