Elmira College men's basketball tips off their 2015-2016 season this weekend and while the Soaring Eagles enter this season without several key contributors, including their top two scorers from last season, the team does return several players who logged significant minutes. This group of returners, coupled with a large class of talented newcomers, puts the Soaring Eagles in a good position to get over the hump and qualify for postseason play this season. Elmira's head coach, Randie Torgalski, believes that this year's installment of the Soaring Eagles might be the deepest team he has fielded during his tenure with the program.
"We did lose some significant contributors from last year, but we also have a lot of experience coming back," Torgalski said. "We had a lot of younger guys get on the court and get their feet wet last year. I think we have more offensive talent than we've ever had."
The Soaring Eagles continue to develop as a program, coming off a 10-15 overall record during the 2014-2015 season, which included a 7-9 mark in Empire 8 Conference play. While the end results ultimately fell short of the team's aspirations to qualify for postseason play, it was another step in the right direction for a program that is looking to establish consistency and an identity.
