Phoebe Piku '16 and Kelcey Crawford '18 of the Elmira College women's ice hockey team received accolades from the ECAC West conference office for their superb play last week. Piku was named the conference's Player of the Week, while Crawford took home Goaltender of the Week honors.
Piku was credited with a pair of assists in Elmira's 2-1 win over Williams College last Saturday. She had the primary assist on Elmira's game-opening goal just 2:15 into the first period. The Grosse Pointe, MI, native then set up EC's game-winning goal in the second period with a beautiful one-touch pass that allowed classmate Olivia Nystrom '16 to find the back of the net.
Her two-point performance is a season high and is also her first multi-assist game since December 6, 2014. Piku has tallied at least one point in four of Elmira's last five games and is riding a three-game point streak.
Crawford got the start between the pipes for Elmira on Saturday against Williams. The Purcellville, VA, product turned away a season-high 23 shots to guide the Soaring Eagles to their 10th straight win. 12 of her game's 23 saves were made in the third period, including a penalty shot save with 1:56 remaining in regulation.
Crawford has been phenomenal in net for the Purple and Gold with a 6-1-0 record this season. She has won six straight starts and boasts a 1.23 goals against average, which is tied for ninth in the nation.
The Elmira women return to action next Saturday, January 9th, when the Soaring Eagles welcome 10th-ranked Norwich University to the Murray Athletic Center Ice Arena for a 3:00 p.m. non-conference contest.
