Cheerleading Takes First Place At Cheersport Nationals

The Elmira College cheerleading team topped the University of Guelph to successfully defend its Cheersport National Championship on Sunday afternoon at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

The Soaring Eagles claimed the College 6 division crown with a two-day total score of 75.89, nearly a full point better than Gryphons, who scored 74.91. On the second day of competition, EC earned 76.25 out of 85 points, an improvement of 1.45 points from Saturday's Day 1 score.

It marks the second consecutive year that the Purple and Gold has edged Guelph for the Cheersport title, as last season, the Soaring Eagles beat the second-place Gryphons 72.89-to-71.13.
