Awards for fourth-year outside hitter Mike Ellison '16 continue to pour in, as the Victor, NY, native was named the ECAC Division III North Player of the Week.
In a 3-1 week at the Golden Flyer Invitational, Ellison produced a team-leading 66 kills, a 4.12 kills per set average, and a .408 attack percentage. He also registered seven blocks, seven aces, and 20 digs.
Ellison had two matches over the weekend in which he totaled 20-or-more kills, including a 27-kill effort in Elmira's five-set win over D'Youville College. His 27-kill total was a career- and tournament-high. Not only was his kill total impressive, so was his efficiency. Ellison finished the match with a season-best .467 attack percentage on a 27k-6e-45ta stat line.
For his efforts at the Golden Flyer Invitational, Ellison was named to the All-Tournament Team, and earned his first-ever UVC Player of the Week Award.
Through the first 10 matches of the season, Ellison leads EC in kills (100), is second in kills per set (2.86), and third in both aces (13) and digs (46).
No. 13 Elmira will return to action this weekend when the Purple and Gold host a UVC Tri-Match at Speidel Gymnasium on Saturday, February 13th. The Soaring Eagles will take on Massachusetts Institute of Technology at 11:00 a.m., and eighth-ranked New York University at 5:00 p.m.
