On Monday, February 15, alumna Krista Matia ’09, Development Manager of the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, was on campus to participate in the Office of Career Services’ Mentor Monday program. The first and third Mondays of each month, a business professional from the community comes to campus to meet with Elmira College students one on one. During a one-on-one 15-minute time slot, students have the opportunity to have their resume and cover letter reviewed, interview skills critiqued, make networking connections, or simply have a conversation with a professional who has experience in the position or industry matching the student’s career aspiration.
Students who attended previous Mentor Monday sessions have had great experiences. Kelly Johnson ’16 had the opportunity to sit down with CEO and Executive Director of the YWCA of Elmira, Michele Johnson. “I thought the idea of being able to speak one on one with a mentor was awesome. It gave me a chance to ask specific questions and she could answer them directly tailored to me. I appreciated being able to learn more about interview skills, which is not my strong point. Overall, I thought it was helpful, especially as a senior about to face many of the subjects we discussed first hand,” Kelly said.
The next Mentor Monday is scheduled for Monday, March 7, from 12:00-1:00 p.m., and will feature Randy Reid, Owner of Reid Media Group, LLC, a local advertising agency.

About Krista Matia '09
A 2009 Elmira College graduate, Krista Matia holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Business and Marketing from Elmira College and is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Management. Krista is beginning a new career path as Development Manager at the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, after having served on their Board of Directors for three years. In this position, Krista will manage donor data, performing analysis for current trends and areas of growth; lead the year-round direct mailing program and coordinate donor acquisition events. She was formerly the Director of Marketing at Welliver during which she lead the company’s marketing department, executed corporate sales strategies, and managed the proposal and interview processes for new construction projects. She also has experience in intern and entry level recruiting. Krista served on the Board of Directors for the Food Bank of the Southern Tier and was the 2015 Vice Chair of the Development Committee. She is a member of the Watkins Glen Chamber of Commerce Annual Fundraising Gala Committee and the Diversified Revenue Task Force. In her spare time, she works on freelance marketing projects for small businesses and professional development training.
