The Elmira College women's ice hockey team checked-in at No. 2 in the first NCAA East Regional Ranking of the 2015-16 season. Elmira is also ranked second in the latest D3hockey.com poll and third in the U.S. College Hockey Online poll.

ECAC West rival Plattsburgh State sits atop the East Region with a 23-1-0 overall record. Following Elmira (19-3-1) is a pair of NESCAC teams in Amherst College (18-1-3), who sits in fourth, and Middlebury College (15-4-3), who holds down the fourth spot. The NEHC boasts teams at the fifth and sixth spots in Norwich University (17-6-0) and Castleton University (15-6-2), respectively.

Elmira is very familiar with the majority of teams in the East Regional Ranking, with the exception of Castleton. Plattsburgh is the only team in the East Region with a win over the Soaring Eagles. EC skated to a 2-2 overtime tie with Amherst earlier this year, but Elmira does have wins over fourth-ranked Middlebury and fifth-ranked Norwich. The Soaring Eagles downed the Panthers 3-1 at the Panther-Cardinal Classic and have a pair of victories over the Cadets, including a comfortable 7-2 win on Norwich's home ice.

The NCAA Regional Ranking will continue to be published throughout the year until the NCAA Division III Women's Ice Hockey Tournament field is announced. The final two public rankings are to be released on February 23rd and March 1st.
