Following a 3-1 win over second-ranked Adrian College, the Elmira College women's ice hockey team will travel to Plattsburgh, NY, for the 2016 NCAA Division III Championships, hosted by Plattsburgh State at the Stafford Ice Arena.
Elmira (22-4-1) faces Wisconsin-River Falls (22-5-2) in the semifinal round on Friday, March 18th, at 7:00 p.m. in a rematch of the last year's semifinal bout. The Falcons were the first to punch their ticket to the final site with a 4-1 win over the University of St. Thomas last Friday night.
Plattsburgh (27-1-0) will host the championships for a third consecutive year, as the top-ranked Cardinals rolled to a 5-0 win over Amherst College in the opening round of the championships. The Cardinals are set to face a familiar foe in Middlebury College (21-4-3), who topped the University of Massachusetts Boston 4-0 last Saturday. Plattsburgh and Middlebury square off at 3:30 p.m. on Fridayafternoon.
The winners of the two semifinal games will meet on Saturday, March 19th, at 7:00 p.m. in the National Championship game, while the two non-advancing teams will play for third place at 3:30 p.m.
Tickets will go on sale at 2:00 p.m. each day of competition at the Plattsburgh State Field House box office and are separate for each day of the tournament. Prices are $15 for adults, $10 dollars for college students with ID, children ages 3-12 are $7 and toddlers two and under are free. Friday's ticket holders will get the chance to see both semifinal games, while Saturday's will be admitted to the third-place and National Championship games.
