Outstanding Senior Chemistry Students Honored

On Tuesday, April 5th, several Elmira College chemistry students were honored at the annual Samuel R. Scholes Award Lecture at Alfred University.

Tyler Meyers '16 was recognized as the outstanding senior at Elmira College. Christina Kim '16 took 3rd place with research she performed with Dr. Betsy Smith, Assistant Professor of Biochemistry, and Dr. Jared Baker, Assistant Professor of Chemistry.  Fatima Iqbal '16 and Chris Hall '16 took 1st place with research they performed with Dr. Corey Stilts, Associate Professor of Chemistry.  Elmira College also received both 1st and 3rd place awards in the poster competition.

The annual dinner and awards ceremony recognizes outstanding senior chemistry majors at regional colleges and universities.  The event is named after the late scholar, educator, and glass scientist, Samuel R. Scholes.  The Samuel R. Scholes Lecture Series was established in honor of his interest in the history and philosophy of science.
