It is T-minus 12 days until Friday, September 2 - also known as move-in day for incoming freshmen at Elmira College. It might sound a little scary, and for some new students and their families, it definitely can be.
However, the Residence Life team is here to take the fear and fret out of moving, including a schedule and list of what to expect that day. So, cancel the U-Haul rental, leave the 10-man moving crew at home, keep calm and move on into college.
The Check-In Process:
***Anyone arriving after 12:30 p.m., will need to check-in at the Campus Center***
Drivers should use West Fifth Street to reach the Campus Parking lots behind Anderson and Columbia Halls. Staff members will give directions on which way to proceed once you turn into the parking lots.
Students should immediately go to the check-in tables located between Anderson and Columbia Halls. If a student is driving their own vehicle, they should park their vehicle and then go check in. Students moving into other buildings should still check-in at the tables located between Anderson and Columbia Halls.
Instructions on where to park while moving into your residence hall will be provided to you. Please also reference the maps and information on the following webpage: http://www.elmira.edu/admissions-aid/Enrolled_Students/Moving_In.html
In order to receive room keys, students must have submitted all necessary paperwork to the Campus Health Center and be in good standing with the Business Office. To speed-up your check-in, please ensure you are cleared with these offices prior to move-in.
Once you have checked-in, you will be able to pull your vehicle up to the rear entrance of your residence hall. A driver should remain with the vehicle at all times.
Orientation Leaders will be available to help you move belongings into your room.As soon as your vehicle is unloaded, it should be moved to a parking lot across West 5th Street, or behind Alumni Hall to ensure our helpful Orientation Leaders don't have to carry other items too far.
Once Check-In is Complete:
After the performance, the first day of orientation is complete, but the fun continues into the weekend. Check out the full-schedule here.
Hopefully this schedule helps calm some nerves and make move-in day as smooth as possible. The Residence Life team and Orientation Leaders will be there every step of the way to help answer any questions.
And, if all else fails, stop and look around...you just moved into college. This is the beginning of a new and exciting adventure.
Welcome to Elmira College!
