On this day in 1870, Samuel Clemens, also known as Mark Twain, and Olivia Langdon, an 1864 Elmira College graduate, were married in the Langdon House on Church Street in Elmira.
To celebrate this occasion, the community is invited to the historic Park Church for an open house today from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., in the Langdon Parlor.
The Parlor, built in 1876, will feature special performances of Olivia “Livy” Clemens (portrayed by Sheila Reed) and her father, Jervis Langdon (portrayed by Jim Hare) about the friendships between the Langdons, Beechers, Cranes and other members of the Park Church.
The Church is located between Church and Gray Streets, adjacent to Wisner Park. Enter through the west side door off the parking area.
