Ceramic artwork by Elmira College’s Chris Longwell, Lecturer of Art and Art History, and Director of the George Waters Gallery, will be featured in the 12th Annual Ceramics Invitational Exhibit hosted by the River Gallery in Rocky River, Ohio. The exhibit is open now through April 15.
“My recent investigations involve the way the natural world suggests patterns, textures, and imagery. The shapes and textures of insects, fish, rocks and water influence my process of carving and glazing the surfaces of my pots,” said Longwell in his artist statement.
“I usually choose to create functional objects that are easily integrated into everyday use. It is my hope that when the user of the piece interacts with it, their domestic activity is enhanced by the beauty and or functionality of the object.”
