On March 10, Dr. Lauren Shaw, Associate Professor of Romance Languages, presented a paper in Buenos Aires at the 19th International Conference of Hispanic Literature and Hispanic Studies.
Her presentation was part of a panel on Latino migration and film. She spoke about the documentary Harvest of Empire and its discourse of affect. Half of the panel discussed documentaries and the other half analyzed the use of empathy in fiction film.
Dr. Shaw is currently working with the panel chair, Esteban Loustaunau of Assumption College, as co-editors of a forthcoming book to be published by University Press of Florida, titled Telling Migrant Stories: The Latin American Diaspora in Documentary Film.
