Tradition of Events

Tradition is ingrained in a multitude of special events at Elmira
College. Not all traditions involve solemn ceremonies. In fact,
some are just fun and filling.
At the Midnight Breakfast, held just eight hours before final exams
begin, students, faculty and administrators flock to the Dining
Hall for a free breakfast and a chance to compare notes, ask
last-minute questions and get a break from late-night studying.
Winter Convocation, held at the beginning of Term II each year in
Gibson Theater, recognizes the top undergraduate scholars with a
refined ceremony which includes musical accompaniment by the
Concert Ensemble, which plays the Alma Mater and "Recollection's
Magic Sway." Students, invited guests, faculty and administrators
celebrate at a reception.
The graduating class begins its countdown to Commencement with the
100 Days Celebration, sponsored by the Elmira College
Alumni Association. The members of the class receive their alumni
pins and are welcomed as alumni. Alumni officers for the class are
elected and graduating students are selected as Reunion Chairs,
Class Reporters, Class Agents and Candlelight Speakers. Another
highlight of the event is the awarding of the Alumni Rings, to a
graduating woman and man who exemplify the spirit of Elmira
College.
