Bravo! is an integrated performance course intended to develop students’ skills and abilities. A variety of theatrical methods will be employed, with the intent to develop students’ ability to communicate feeling and thought to an audience, rather than the mere mastery of any one specific technique. Students will explore such communication through daily coursework in performance including acting (1 hour), movement (1 hour), and vocal technique (1 hour). A final hour each day will be spent in preparation of a communicative performance in an area of concentration selected by the student. These preparatory sessions will include one-on-one coaching by the faculty member in preparation for a capstone public performance.
Professor John Kelly, Director of the Theatre Program at Elmira College, has "done it all" - from working with the stars of the past (Milton Berle, Donald O'Connor) to the stars of today's film and stage (Burt Reynolds, Felicia Finley, and more). He has directed well over 200 professional and educational theatre productions, from grand opera to musical comedy, classic tragedy to the most frantic of farces. In addition to his work directing, he has also written a number of short plays selected for publication and performance. Awards began with a Carbonnell nomination for Best Musical and end with a listing in Who's Who in America. His recent They Come and Come was performed at the Metropolitan Playhouse in NYC, Short and Sweet (a collection of four short plays) toured upstate New York, and Are You in Earnest was published by Heuer.
