Arts Alive Month Event - Under the Floorboards: Hidden Art of the Holocaust
Professor Marc Dennis will discuss clandestine art made by inmates inside Nazi concentration camps. Some 5,000 drawings and paintings survived the war " each one revealing a human dimension " providing us with a rare glimpse of the daily existence in the camps. Though only a small number of inmates were indeed artists, many of them chose to make art in secrecy, even at the risk of getting caught, most often punishable by death.
