Social Studies

Bachelor of Arts (A. B.) or Bachelor of Science (S. B.)

The Social Studies major is designed to help students meet the New York State Education Department requirements for certification to teach high school and middle school social studies.  In addition to twenty-one credits in U. S. and world history, students choose to concentrate in two other Social Studies disciplines: Anthropology, Economics, Political Science, or Sociology. 

Courses in this highly interdisciplinary major place heavy emphasis on writing, critical thinking, and original research.
