The Accounting program at Elmira College is designed for students
who would like to pursue a career in public accounting, industry,
or in government. Some of our recent graduates have taken jobs with
Pricewaterhouse Coopers, Deloitte & Touche, the United States
Government Accountability Office (GAO), the New York State
Comptroller's Office, and Lockheed Martin. The Accounting program
also prepares students for graduate school in business or in
accounting. Some of recent graduates have gone on to attend
graduate school at Notre Dame, Union College, and Rochester
Institute of Technology.
There are three different curriculum options depending on your needs and career goals.
• BS in Accounting – a 120-hour program that will allow students to sit for the CPA exam through August 1, 2009. After August 1, 2009, students have the option of pursuing this degree and going to another college to complete a fifth year (4 – 1 program).
• BS in Accounting – a 150-hour program designed to meet the needs of students to sit for the CPA exam after August 1, 2009. This program is designed as a 150 hour undergraduate program to be completed in four years (Pending approval of the New York State Department of Education. Until approval is granted, the New York State Education Department will receive each student's transcripts to determine eligibility).
• BS in Business Administration with a Specialization in Management Accounting – a 120 hour program designed for students who are not interested in sitting for the CPA exam. This program requires that students take upper level courses in Intermediate Accounting I, Intermediate Accounting II, Cost Accounting I and two additional elective accounting classes, categorized as Option A, Option B, or Option C.
