Prepare for Law School

Pre-Law Preparation

A broadly-based education in the liberal arts and sciences is great preparation for a career in the law. Thus, completing any major at Elmira College will prepare the prospective attorney for success; it is important to emphasize on one’s choice of courses those that stress strong reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. It is also important to pursue challenging subjects that require one to think hard and to examine and interpret hard problems.

At Elmira College, such majors include (among others) Philosophy, English, History, Criminal Justice and Sociology, Classical Studies, Economics, and Political Science. However, completing a major in science of Math would also be challenging and Elmira College graduates with these majors have done well in law school and in their legal careers.

An active Pre-Law club, called “The Legal Eagles,” meets regularly and entertains as guests and speakers attorneys and judges from the region as well as Law School recruiters.

It is wise to seek Pre-Law counseling shortly after starting the freshman year.
