Elmira College hosted Congressman Tom Reed and for a roundtable discussion with the Presidents and other academic administrators for the colleges and universities in his district.
Dr. Ronald Champagne, EC President, welcomed the Congressman and the other guests to the college.
“Elmira College is proud to play this role in collaborating with the Congressman and the leadership of the other fine colleges and universities in this district,” said Champagne.
After Reed’s opening statements on the problems of workforce development, the Congressman led the discussion among the presidents. Important issues discussed included preparing students for the job market in the future, student loans and the current cost of college, and educating future students on how to pay for college.
These topics were tied in to the current federal and state policies as well as how support from local business and industry can link recent graduates with jobs in upstate New York.
“Our district is home to some of the nation’s best institutions of higher education. Elmira College is one of those great American colleges. I am so pleased that we were able to bring these leaders together here at EC,” said Reed.
Elmira College, a leader in hosting important conferences of all kinds, was proud to host this roundtable.
