Dr. Jim Twombly, Associate Professor of Political Science at Elmira College, recently returned from the Midwest Political Science Association Annual Meeting in Chicago. At the meeting, he presented a paper co-authored with Elmira College alum Kat Slye '12, who is currently a graduate student in political science at the University at Albany. The paper was a first step in taking a new look at the concept of professional legislatures. Twombly and Slye are in the process of revising the paper and expanding the study. An offshoot of the project will be to apply the definitions of professional legislatures to county legislative bodies in New York State. Current Elmira College student Brian Nichols '14 is working on this aspect of the project with them.
