Project DUMBO

Marc Dennis, Associate Professor of Art at Elmira College, leads Project DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) – a residential college course that allows Elmira College students to engage in the arts in New York City. Implemented all but two years since its inception in 2001, project DUMBO provides unique opportunities for EC creative arts students to visit museums, attend gallery openings and art fairs, tour designer showrooms, and participate in the cultural opportunities that New York City has to offer.

About DUMBO
This course focuses on viewing, appreciating and understanding art, including potential career development and job placement. Students leave campus for one month and move into a loft apartment in a dynamic and artistic neighborhood in Brooklyn. The course as a whole is a unique and rare opportunity for students interested in art and/or the business of art. Students view large collections of private and public art, visit many museums and galleries, and meet people from a wide range of art-related careers. The experience as a whole encourages creative and critical thinking, networking skills, and exposes students to diverse cultures.
