Phil Gillett ’08
Originally from the state of Maine, Phil Gillett
’08 came to Elmira College in the fall of 2004 to study
education. As an undergraduate he majored in Adolescent Education
and Social Studies, and also minored in Biology. In addition to his
academic studies Phil served the campus community as a Resident
Assistant for three years, and was actively involved in many
aspects of campus life, including: A1 & the Sauce, Judicial
Board, the Gold Key Society and the Student Alumni Council. Shortly
after graduating in 2008, he joined the United States Peace Corps,
and served overseas in Madagascar as a TEFL (Teaching English as a
Foreign Language) volunteer and teacher trainer. He spent the past
two years teaching for the East Syracuse-Minoa Central Schools
District, and recently finished his MSEd at nearby Le Moyne
College. Today he is excited to be returning to the Elmira College
community as the new Residence Life Coordinator of Alumni Hall, and
is grateful for the opportunity to help incoming students discover
their passions, achieve their dreams, and succeed.
"The stakeholders’—families, students,
teaching faculty, staff, alumni, and
administrators—shared participation is vital to any
institution seeking to advance the hearts and minds of its
students. That’s what makes Elmira College the
special place it is – its commitment to
community!"
