Community Service
The Elmira College Community Service course (FEX 2520) is a one and one-half credit requirement for full-time students. Students are expected to contribute their time (no fewer than sixty hours) and ability to meet human needs in the community. Students’ service activity is to be completed during the first two years through a recognized non-profit service organization, and without remuneration.
Students become increasingly aware of the need for human service, appreciate the concept of volunteerism, develop compassion for those in need, and experience the rewards of community involvement. The College expects that adequate supervision for the experience be provided by the host organization and that the student and the identified supervisor work together to track and verify the required number of hours worked.
