About Commencement
Commencement is the last tradition for our graduating class before leaving Elmira College. This tradition honors each individual student in the graduating class with the presentation of their degrees. We have had many great Commencement speakers in the past few years, including Elaine L. Chao, the nation’s 24th Secretary of Labor, Col. Eileen Collins, first woman space shuttle commander and Brian Williams, NBC news anchor. These Commencement addresses congratulate our students on their superior achievement and provide motivation for the next step in their lives. The Commencement ceremony offers the parents, faculty and administration all a chance to honor the student's hard work and accomplishments.
Graduation Application
Students who expect to complete degree requirements by June or August must submit an application for graduation at the beginning of the term in which they expect to complete the degree or by February 1st, whichever date is the earlier. In order to participate in Commencement a student must be within 9 credit hours of completing the degree at the time of Commencement. Exceptions to this may be made by petitioning the Educational Standards Committee for any undergraduate degree (A.A., A.S., A.B. or S.B.).
Academic Honors
Elmira College students maybe awarded the following honors:
