“Elmira College provides me with the academic support and community atmosphere that I need so that I can be successful throughout my college career and long after I graduate."
What are your plans for the future?
Although I have always been interested in math, I never knew what type of mathematical career I wanted to pursue after college. At the end of my freshman year, I participated in Freshman Fieldwork where I was placed in an 8th grade math classroom at an Elmira public school. During my six weeks in the classroom, I was able to get hands-on experience to learn what it would be like to be a math teacher. I am glad that I was able to get this experience so early in my college career because I decided to pursue a degree in adolescence education so that I can become a high school math teacher.
What is your favorite club or activity?
As a member of the Gold Key Society, I work with Admissions by giving tours to prospective students and assisting with Open House events. I enjoy being a part of this organization because it allows me to meet and interact with numerous different families. It is a great feeling knowing that I have such a large impact on where a student chooses to spend the next four years of his or her life.
Have any faculty members or administrators helped you? How?
Elmira College students have the advantage of learning in a small school population where the faculty and professors know one by name. In class, I never feel as if I am lost in the crowd and I am definitely one to take advantage of all of my professors’ office hours. The professors are very approachable and accessible to meet with outside of class time and I believe that this has assisted me in my academic success.
