Elmira College is the perfect place for me. It has everything I was looking for in a college and more opportunities than I imagined. I cannot picture myself anywhere else.
How did you get involved on campus?
In High School, I was actively involved in my school and community. I knew I wanted to continue this in college. Discovering the opportunities available with EC was very easy. At Summer Registration, everyone received a booklet with all of the clubs and activities on campus and who to contact for more information. I had plenty of time to browse through and narrow down what organizations I wanted to get involved with. At Fall Orientation, I attended the Activities Fair where there were representatives from countless clubs on campus to ask questions and sign up for meetings. Before I knew it, I was involved with clubs, jobs, and honor societies.
What did you like about community service, encore, core, or the freshmen writing program?
Each of the programs I experienced in my freshman year were extremely valuable. Community service was a great way to get to know the community. Through Circle K, I had the opportunity to work with many organizations and help a lot of people. I am still a member of Circle K and continue to give back. The Encore program opened my eyes to many different styles of music with a variety of performances to choose from. It is nice to see renowned performers and support friends in EC shows. The core classes were my favorite freshman year. It was interesting to learn about different cultures and current issues. The rich discussion helped me to see the variety of perspectives of my classmates as everyone brought a different point of view. Lastly, the freshman writing program enhanced my skills and prepared me for challenging papers in the future.
Describe one part of the orientation trilogy (SR, FO, PW) that benefited you.
Every part of the orientation trilogy was important in transitioning into college life. The most beneficial program to me was Fall Orientation. It was nice to be reunited with my friends from Summer Registration and to meet new people on my floor and building. Attending the Activities Fair and Community Service Fair informed me of many opportunities ahead. Having time to get settled, pick up my books, select Encore tickets, and explore campus as a new student was great as well.
