Dr. Jim Twombly, Associate Professor of Political Science at Elmira College, was recently interviewed by Jesse McKinley of the New York Times in a story about potential election law reform in New York State. Some state elected officials are talking about the possibility of eliminating or at least altering the practice of cross-endorsements by political parties. These discussions have been prompted by recent events concerning allegations of bribery by New York State Senator Malcolm Smith, a Democrat, in his attempt to gain the Republican Party line for mayor of New York City. Twombly had presented a paper on a related issue in which he discussed the cross-endorsement practice known as a Wilson-Pakula certificate. He is currently revising the paper and intends to seek publication.
