Ceramic Mural Grand Opening, with Artist and Professor Chris Longwell

Tanglewood Nature Center and Museum revealed their newest art installation, created by Chris Longwell, Lecturer of Art and Art History and Director of the George Waters Gallery at Elmira College, at a 2:00 p.m. ceremony on Saturday, March 19.  The family-friendly program is free and open to the public.

In 2015 the ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes awarded Professor Longwell with an Artist Crossroads Grant to create a ceramic mural at Tanglewood Museum and Nature Center. The project combines his love of art, nature and community. At the grand opening, Longwell will give a give a presentation on how the ceramic mural was designed, created, and installed.

Longwell’s ceramic works are exhibited nationally at venues such as the Society for Contemporary Craft, Pittsburgh, PA), the M.T. Burton Gallery, Surf City, NJ, and Charlie Cummings Gallery, Gainesville, FL . His work has been published in numerous books (Lark Books 500 Cups; 500 Pitchers) and magazines (Ceramics Monthly, Ceramics:Art and Perception). A recent one-man exhibition was installed in the gallery at Clayscapes, Syracuse, NY.
