For the first time since 2000, a pair of Elmira College student-athletes have been crowned Academic All-Americans by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), as announced on Thursday afternoon. Ari Smith '18 of the women's ice hockey team was named to the 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division III Women's At-Large First Team, while dual-sport standout Sarah Hughson '18 was included on the Third Team.

Smith and Hughson are first Soaring Eagles to receive the award from CoSIDA since Leah Malliris '01, the all-time leader in kills in EC women's volleyball history, did so as a senior in 2000. Additionally, Smith joins former women's volleyball setter Kathie Beebe '87 as just the second Elmira student-athlete to be tabbed a first-team honoree.
