Commencement is rapidly approaching for the Marvelous Class of 2018, and as this year’s graduates prepare to cross the Commencement stage, we are catching up with members from the Wonderful Class of 2017 to see what they’re doing and what advice they have for the soon-to-be graduates.  This week, we hear from Johanna Eidensten ’17, a business controller at H&M.

Let’s learn more from Johanna…

One year after graduation I finally landed my dream job, but getting there wasn’t easy...

I moved to New York City right after graduation to start working as a Business Manager for a tech startup. I was responsible for customer acquisitions and   market growth. Although I didn’t love my time at this company I learned that “All experiences are good experiences” - there’s always something you can learn. I realized that neither the facility management industry nor the sales role was for me and I learned that it is important for me to work in an industry that I am   truly interested in. Although I didn’t love my job, I had the best year of my life in New York City.

One year later and months of job applications, endless rejections, and long interviewing processes, I finally landed my dream job as a Business Controller at H&M’s headquarter in Stockholm, Sweden.  At H&M I am responsible for the profitability of the section, Women’s Big Accessories. I work alongside Buyers and Designers to create new collections with the goal to maximize sales while keeping a low price.

I am very thankful for all the help and support I got from Elmira College’s Career Services, even after I graduated.

I love my new job and I am thankful for how much I learned on the journey to get here!
